Vegetable Fiber Gaskets (Plant Fiber Gaskets)

Custom Gasket Mfg. converts a variety of die cut parts and gaskets from vegetable (plant) fiber materials. Vegetable Fiber is a treated cellulose fiber material impregnated with protein glue and a glycerin binder.  It is commonly referred to as Detroiter.  This material works well for a wide range of sealing applications where temperatures can reach 250˚F.  It is strong and flexible, resists heavy pressure and is compressible.  It is used most often in industrial, chemical, petroleum, petrochemical and automotive industries.  Vegetable fiber is chemically treated to be resistant to oils, water, alcohol, grease, air, gas, gasoline and other solvents.  It is available in a variety of thicknesses ranging from 0.006” to 0.187” thick.  From engineering to design and tooling, to die cutting and fabrication, All Seals has the capabilities to meet the tightest tolerances and the highest quality standards.

Vulcanized Fiber Gaskets

All Seals converts custom vulcanized fiber gaskets, seals, and washers using our die cutting, punching and stamping capabilities.  Vulcanized fiber is a hard, durable, chemically pure cellulose product that contains no resin or bonding agents.  Vulcanized fiber is made between .0078" and .375" thick.  It is produced in several grades and colors.  The electrical grade of vulcanized fiber is referred to as fish paper.  Vulcanized fiber has superior flatness, high mechanical strength, and excellent resistance to heat and cold.  It is light weight, has excellent tear resistance, and can be machined with standard tools.  It can be machined, punched, slit, threaded, formed, molded and wound into tubes for literally countless applications.

Vulcanized fiber can be used for washers, insulating plates, switch and appliance insulation, electric motor insulation, gaskets, automobile parts, luggage, patterns, and many other applications.

Vulcanized Fiber is also sold under trade names: Vulcanex® and Forbon®.

Fish Paper Gaskets (Electrical Grade)

Fish paper is a strong paperboard insulation used primarily for its excellent electrical insulating properties.  Fish paper is the name for the electrical grade of vulcanized fiber.  Its unique properties include that it is lightweight, and very easy to form and punch.  It is great for gasket applications, washers and spacers.  Fish paper is used extensively for electrical insulation applications due to excellent arc resistance.  It is also non-magnetic and resistant to solvents, oils, grease, corrosion, wear and abrasion.  Fish paper is machine-able without splintering, ripping or cracking.

Fish paper applications include: electrical appliances, instruments and insulators, washers, electrical devices, gaskets, fuse tubes, slot insulations, arc shields, coil insulations, insulation washers, circuit breakers, bushings for motor contacts and lightening arresters.

All Seals manufactures fish paper gaskets cut to your exact specifications.

Cellulose Fiber / Synthetic or Nitrile Rubber Binder Gaskets

All Seals converts gaskets from a variety of (non-asbestos) cellulose fiber gasket materials that are bounded with blended synthetic or nitrile rubber binders. These exceptional cellulose fiber rubber binder gasket materials are produced by the beater-addition process. In general this line of gasket material demonstrates good fluid resistance, mostly against cold and warm oils, fuels, water, and anti-freeze. They also exhibit good dimensional stability and flexibility. The selection of styles we carry vary in characteristics such as density, swelling, fluid absorbency, and compressibility. The main industries for these materials are automotive, truck and engine construction. Cellulose fiber rubber binder gaskets materials have a maximum service temperature range of 350°F.
