Polyethylene: LDPE, HDPE, UHMW Gaskets

All Seals converts, stamped, punched, laser cut and water jet cut parts using polyethylene plastic materials; such as Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE), High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) and Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMW). Polyethylene plastic is characterized by toughness, near-zero moisture absorption, excellent chemical, and electrical insulating resistance properties. Polyethylene plastics are classified by density and the primary differences are in rigidity, heat resistance, chemical resistance, and ability to sustain loads. In general, as density increases, heat resistance, stiffness, and resistance to permeability increase. Low-density polyethylene plastics are quite flexible, with high impact strength and relatively low heat resistance.

  • Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) Gaskets
LDPE is easy to process and improves product performance because it offers excellent printability, strength, tear resistance and elasticity. This makes it a good choice for a variety of film applications. It is useful for producing a variety of products including liners, bags, shrink and lamination films, extrusion coatings and caps and closures. It is durable enough to produce a variety of products such as power cables and toys.
  • High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) Gaskets
HPDE is useful for applications that require toughness, rigidity and strength, making it a good choice for blow molding and injection molding applications. For blow molding applications, HDPE offers stiffness and stress crack resistance, which makes it a useful application for personal care, household and industrial containers. HDPE has little branching, giving it stronger intermolecular forces and tensile strength than lower-density polyethylene. It is also harder and more opaque and can withstand somewhat higher temperatures (248°F for short periods, 230°F continuously).
  • Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMW) Gaskets
UHMW can withstand even the harshest chemicals, making it the material of choice for applications including caustic compounds as well as rigorous cleaning solvents. In regard to wear resistance, frictional coefficients, impact strength and corrosion resistance few if any materials can bring as unique of a combination as UHMW. UHMW washers are made from Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene. This material is also known in the industry as UHMWPE. Neither water nor water-containing substances or oil and oil-containing substances are wet by UHMW. It yields excellent chemical resistance when UHMW Flat Washers are used in your applications. UHMWPE is a superior lining material useful for bulk material handling applications. It is the first commercially successful and most commonly used synthetic polymer. Crystalline nylons have high tensile strength; flex modulus, impact strength, and abrasive resistance. There are several different types of nylons on the market, the two most regularly used being nylon 6 and 6/6. Nylon 6/6 is the hardest, and it has a significantly higher melting point. Nylons work with little or no lubrication, but lubrication will improve the life and load carrying properties. It is available in a glass filled variant as well as molybdenum filled variant to aid in certain applications. In the glass variant, glass is added to aid in high temperature, structural properties as well as increased impact strength and rigidity applications. The molybdenum variant is used when a moving part requires an extra secretion of fluid for lubricity without the need for manually adding a lubricator to the part. Nylon has a high impact strength as well as abrasion resistance making it a suitable material for parts such as gears and bearings. It has good resistance to most oils and greases and resists a wide spectrum of fuels and chemicals. It will not be affected by insects, fungi, mold or mildew.
